Trade, customs and new requirements ahead of winter.<\/strong> Here are this autumn’s most important changes in trade and customs, and what they may mean for your shipments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump threatens EU with new tariffs over Canada proposal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

US President Donald Trump has threatened the EU with sharply higher tariffs and trade restrictions following the European Commission’s proposal to give Canada special status as an associate member. The proposal aims to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, energy and technology. Trump has warned of trade sanctions if he considers the cooperation to be directed against the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No specific tariff decisions have been announced yet, but the development adds further uncertainty to EU\u2013US trade relations. We will let you know if anything changes that could affect you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US introduces new sanctions against Russia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On 18 September, President Donald Trump signed a comprehensive sanctions package targeting Russia and its trading partners. The law allows the United States to impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on goods from countries that are major buyers of Russian oil and gas, including China and India. The sanctions also cover Russian banks, the energy sector and vessels used to circumvent existing restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For companies with global supply chains, this may lead to changing trade flows, higher transport costs and new trade barriers, particularly for exports to the US from the countries concerned. Energy prices and ocean freight costs may also be affected indirectly. The new powers do not, however, mean that the tariffs take effect automatically. We are monitoring the situation and how it may affect your international shipments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estimate your preliminary CBAM cost<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Dutch Emissions Authority has developed a free Excel tool that helps importers estimate their future CBAM costs. By entering details of your imported goods and their embedded emissions, you get a preliminary picture of the costs and can plan your import budget more accurately. Please note that the tool is for guidance only and has not been reviewed by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EUDR is approaching<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The EU Deforestation Regulation, EUDR, will apply from 30 December 2026 for large and medium-sized companies. Most small companies will be covered from 30 June 2027. The regulation requires relevant products, including wood, rubber, coffee, cocoa, soy and palm oil, to be deforestation-free and traceable. The European Commission has recently updated the product list and simplified parts of the reporting requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you import, it is important to review now which goods are covered and make sure your suppliers can provide the necessary documentation. Non-compliance may mean that goods cannot be placed on the EU market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Digitoll: new customs requirements for goods to Norway<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since 15 September, all transport and goods information for shipments to Norway must be submitted digitally, before or at the latest at the border. On 1 March 2027 the requirements will be tightened further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is Digitoll?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Digitoll is the Norwegian Customs Service’s new system for reporting transports and goods entering Norway. It is gradually replacing the previous direct-drive arrangement and is designed to make border crossings faster. The requirements apply to all modes of transport: ocean freight, air freight, rail and road transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two dates to keep in mind<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

15 September 2026:<\/strong> Digital reporting of transport and goods information is mandatory for all transports to Norway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 March 2027:<\/strong> The import declaration must be registered before or at the latest at the border crossing. The option to declare up to ten days after entry will be removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What we need from you<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For goods to cross the border without delay, we need complete details at the time of booking: shipper, consignee, description of goods and gross weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1 March, the documents for the import declaration, such as the invoice and commodity code, must also be ready before the goods leave you. If anything is missing, the shipment may be held at the border, leading to waiting time and additional costs. Several carriers are also introducing their own Digitoll-related fees this autumn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
