Golden Week in China, 1\u20137 October<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chinese factories and many offices close for Golden Week. This year Mid-Autumn falls on 25\u201327 September, just before, which makes 28\u201330 September the last real working window before the break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are planning shipments out of China this autumn, start early. We will come back with more ahead of October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PPWR \u2013 new packaging rules<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The EU’s new packaging regulation took effect on 12 August. If you import packaging or packaged products from outside the EU, three things need to be in place: technical documentation from the manufacturer, your own name and postal address on the packaging, and an EU declaration of conformity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can still sell your stock. Packaging placed on the market before 12 August is not affected and does not have to be withdrawn. The rest of the regulation is phased in through 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Centralised customs clearance from 1 September<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On 1 September, centralised clearance for imports was expanded in Sweden. With the right authorisation you can file your import declarations in Sweden even when the goods enter the EU through another member state. The expansion now also covers simplified and supplementary declarations, and entry in the declarant’s records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CBAM update<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The European Commission published three updates in August. On 10 August, corrected default values for emissions, which may be used in certain cases when actual figures are unavailable. On 14 August, ten new guidance documents for producers outside the EU, with sector-specific sections for iron and steel, aluminium, cement and fertilisers among others. On 24 August, guidance on verification and accreditation: if you use actual emissions values, they must be substantiated by an independent accredited verifier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those of you affected, it comes down to one thing. Review the dialogue with your suppliers now, so they know the requirements and can provide the right emissions data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During August, the US increased pressure on the EU to change rules Washington regards as trade barriers \u2013 CBAM, CSRD and CSDDD among them. The EU’s position is that the Union’s right to decide its own regulations is not negotiable. For you, nothing changes right now: plan on the basis that the requirements apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EU\u2013India: free trade agreement concluded<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The EU and India completed negotiations on a free trade agreement earlier this year. It is not yet in force, but is going through the process towards adoption and ratification. The EU describes it as the most ambitious free trade agreement India has entered into so far, particularly on tariff reductions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India is growing as an alternative and a complement to China in European supply chains, and lower trade barriers could increase both ocean and air freight between India and Sweden\/the EU over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
